A bridge across emerald water leading to Kouri Island, with coastal scenery that makes it a highlight of a drive through northern Okinawa.
Highlights
- A 1,960 m bridge over the sea
- Yagaji and Kouri island views
- Changing shades of blue
Open views over the water
The 1,960 m bridge opened in 2005 between Yagaji Island in Nago and Kouri Island in Nakijin. Reef colors spread out along the crossing, while viewpoints including the island’s greenery give a different impression from a close view of the bridge.
Shades of blue and emerald spread out on both sides of the bridge. The journey toward Kouri Island is part of the coastal scenery of northern Okinawa.
Exploring the area
A scenic stop before the crossing can be followed by a walk on Kouri Island. Separating time for the bridge and the island makes the journey more than a drive-through. Nakijin Castle Ruins offer a contrasting historical stop in the same village.
Before visiting
Viewpoints and designated stopping places suit a scenic break. The route should be planned without relying on stopping on the bridge itself.
