Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium

A whale shark in the large tank at Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium

Your travel notes

Pause in front of a vast aquarium window and look closely at Okinawa’s marine life. Churaumi Aquarium also pairs with a coastal break in Ocean Expo Park and a wider visit to Motobu.

What to look out for

  1. The Kuroshio Sea main tank
  2. Whale sharks and manta rays
  3. A visit within Ocean Expo Park

Give the main tank more than a passing glance

The aquarium’s signature Kuroshio Sea tank holds 7,500 cubic meters of water. Alongside the whale shark and other marine life, notice differences in scale between animals near the glass and fish farther away. Spending time at one window reveals more than moving quickly between displays.

From underwater displays to Motobu scenery

Check the day’s visitor information and choose the exhibits that interest you most. After the indoor visit, leave room for a break with a sea view in the park. On a drive around Motobu, the Bise Fukugi Tree Road adds a contrasting stop among the greenery of a traditional neighborhood.
