Gates, walls and Ryukyu culture
Shuri Castle was a center of politics, diplomacy and culture in the Ryukyu Kingdom. Shureimon Gate, Sonohyan-utaki Ishimon and other sites are spread through the park. Gates, slopes and walls together reveal the scale of the castle setting.
The distinctive red Shureimon Gate and the surrounding stonework give the park its character. These features offer a historical contrast to central Naha.
Exploring the area
The park map helps connect open gates, historic sites and viewpoints into a walk. Separate time for the grounds and the surrounding Shuri neighborhood creates room for both the castle landscape and the city around it.
Before visiting
Restoration, public access and viewing arrangements can change. The park’s official information explains open areas and any reservation requirements.
