Your travel notes
Cross a short bridge to a fishing island known for Okinawan tempura, fresh seafood and an easy-going coastal atmosphere.
Ou Island lies in Tamagusuku, Nanjo, off southern Okinawa’s main island. A bridge makes it accessible by car. Fishing boats, seafood shops, restaurants and tempura stalls bring the coast and everyday life together. Rather than rushing between attractions, leave time to look at the water and browse a shop. Check the destination carefully: this is Ou Island in Nanjo, not another island with the same name.
Ou Island Imaiyu Market offers a chance to see locally landed fish, seafood products and regional goods. Pair a market visit with a tempura stop, allowing the day’s selection to guide a small food break. Ask where purchases may be eaten, and keep fishing work areas clear. The island works well as an unhurried pause during a southern Okinawa drive.
One suggested way to include this stop in a walk or drive.
