A road over the sea from Uruma to Henza Island, with open water on both sides of the island-hopping route.
Highlights
- A 4.75 km road over shallow sea
- A break at the roadside park
- A route toward nearby islands
A drive surrounded by water
The 4.75 km road connects the Yokatsu Peninsula and Henza Island. Despite its name, it runs above shallow sea on an embankment rather than through an underwater tunnel. A roadside park and the boat-shaped Ayahashi building provide a midway stop.
Sea views on either side give the route an open atmosphere. The scenery along the road is part of the journey’s appeal.
Exploring the area
A break at the roadside park separates the drive from time enjoying the sea views. The route also leads toward Henza, Hamahiga, Miyagi and Ikei islands, so a crossing can be combined with exploring beyond the road itself.
Before visiting
The Uruma tourism association provides information for stops along the route and the islands beyond it. Designated parking areas suit scenic breaks.
