The 14th Ryukyu Kaiensai Fireworks Festival
Okinawa's beaches begin opening in late March, welcoming summer before the rest of Japan. Ryukyu Kaiensai returns to Ginowan Seaside Park on Saturday, April 8. Eisa performances and around 10,000 fireworks synchronized with everything from Okinawan folk songs to current hits attract visitors from across Japan.
The highlight is the large fireworks display. An hour of expertly launched fireworks using the latest technology combines beautifully with carefully synchronized music.
Tickets for the paid viewing area go on sale February 24, 2017. Seating is provided only for reserved-seat tickets, so bring a mat or plastic sheet. The event goes ahead in rain, so bring rain gear too.
Look Out for Fireworks Designed by Junko Koshino
The main Fireworks Illusion display features designer fireworks created by internationally renowned fashion designer Junko Koshino.
The beautifully designed fireworks captivate the audience — a spectacular way to welcome summer.
10,000 Fireworks Create a Grand Work of Springtime Art
Marutamaya Ogatsu Fireworks, the Ryukyu Kaiensai pyrotechnic team, launches the fireworks designed by Junko Koshino. Winner of the 28th Macau International Fireworks Contest in 2016, the team choreographs its displays to a variety of music.
The collaboration between a world-renowned designer and leading pyrotechnicians creates around 10,000 precisely choreographed fireworks, presenting a magnificent work of art unique to this event.
