Okinawa Marathon

The 26th Okinawa Marathon takes place at Okinawa Comprehensive Athletic Park on Sunday, February 18, 2018. Alongside the NAHA Marathon, it is one of Okinawa's most popular races, attracting around 13,000 runners each year. Participants come from across Japan and overseas, including Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and the United States.

The route passes through Okinawa City, Uruma, Kadena, Chatan and Kitanakagusuku. Elevation changes exceed 100 m, with particularly frequent climbs and descents in the second half.

Okinawa's average February temperature is around 17°C, unlike much of mainland Japan.
Runners should prepare carefully for the conditions.

Held under a theme of people, dreams and love, this Japan Association of Athletics Federations-certified event includes a full marathon, 10 km road race and half marathon.

Meet Members of the US Military Along the Way

One of the Okinawa Marathon's distinctive features is the chance to run through Kadena Air Base.

Access is normally restricted, making this a rare experience.

US military personnel come out to cheer runners along the base route.

It is a great opportunity to meet both local residents and military personnel.

Experience Okinawa's Champuru Culture

Central Okinawa, where the race is held, is known for its champuru culture: a blend of Ryukyuan, Southeast Asian, Japanese, Chinese and American influences shaped by history.
The course scenery and enthusiastic roadside support let runners experience this rich cultural mix.

Aid stations welcome runners with Okinawan specialties, including purple sweet potato tarts, popo pancakes, sea grapes, taro pie, mozuku croquettes and tokoroten jelly. Enjoy the warmth of local hospitality!

Plenty to Enjoy Even If You Don't Run

The Chubu Kwacchi Festa food event takes place at the athletic park at the same time. Kwacchi means “feast”, and the event brings together foods from the central area along the marathon course.

You do not have to be a runner to enjoy it!
